One of the most enjoyable rides starts at the Ishawooa Trail Head.  This is approximately 25 miles from Cody, where we pull the horses and unload, then up the trail to some beautiful mountain riding, and excellent fishing streams.

You will notice the mountains in the background is looking back toward Cody, and toward the large reservoir, and Buffalo Bill Dam. We usually take a couple of our young horses, and meet one or two couples to ride with us. The ride is a full day in and back to the trail head, but an easy ride and beautiful country. Setting Out
8,000 Feet This area is located on Pat O Hara, a beautiful ride that has very easy trails and excellent scenery in every direction. This photo was taken at an altitude of approximately 8,000 ft, and looking back toward Cody. Acres of open space and quiet, with an abundance of wildlife, including deer and elk. Birds, rabbits and all of the enjoyable little creatures. A very relaxing day is spent on the horses in this country.
On this particular ride we have taken Rosie, a 7 year old brood mare, on one of her first trips in the mountains after we purchased her, and a 3 year old gelding, Dandy. Jo Jean and Clyde in foreground, and Gary Hoffman with his grey horse, a Paso Fino/Arabian cross. Gary spends many days in the mountains, and enjoys riding, hunting and fishing. This is in another location on Pat O Hara mountain range. Rosie's First Trip

Trail Riders from Cody

Three Tennessee Walkers and one Paso/Arabian cross made this a nice day's ride into the mountains, but it is always nice to just get off the horses, and look at the area and relax. Take a deep breath, and smell the pines and fresh air at the top of the mountains. Pictured Clyde, with Gary and Jeanette Hoffman -  all from Cody, and all avid horse people. Looking for wildlife and taking pictures at this stop.
The top of a ridge on Pat O Hara mountain, looking toward Southfork and into the North Fork Valley, surrounding the Cody Area. We are at about 9,000 ft above sea level here, and just stopped to admire our beautiful Wyoming country. Pat O'Hara Ridge
Lunch Time at the top of the world This ride was in June and by the time we reached this area, we had been riding about 4 hours.  We stopped for a nice long relaxed lunch, of a favorite bologna and cheese sandwich, apples, fresh cold water, and tasty cookies. You always pack a lunch when you ride as they sometimes take longer than you expect, when you get into this type of country.
Clyde is either checking out the deer or elk tracks here, or a special rock, or pretty little flower. It really doesn’t take much to want us to stop, relax, and let the horses eat and rest. Our rides are easy, but usually climbing from approximately 6 to 8 or 9,000 ft, in about 4 hours. It is good to check the horses, made sure the saddles are in place, no rocks in hooves, and that everything is alright for a safe ride. The horses are capable of putting many miles behind them in a day, but if you ride 20 miles, it is a good ride and it is enjoyable for both the horses and riders. 9,000 feet in 4 hours
Rattlesnake Mountain In this picture we are at the top of a ridge on Pat O Hara, looking toward Rattlesnake mountain, which surrounds the Cody Area. You just cannot get enough of this beauty, and the relaxation that you get from a ride like this is worth so much. This type of easy riding, but in rugged mountainous country is a special place to take your horses to teach them the walking, climbing, and being a partner to the man on their back.
They were all good rides, and if you are not used to riding you will feel very small when you get off the horse, and walk a little different, but a hot bath at the end of the day takes all of the sore muscles and gets them ready for another such ride. Nothing like a shady spot to rest awhile.
Ishawooa Trail We have returned to the Ishawooa Trail Head here after a 6 hour ride, in the mountains on the South Fork near Cody. As you can see, these are two separate rides taken about one month apart, but all in areas surrounding Cody.
We have just taken you with us into some beautiful country on some of our fine Tennessee Walker horses. A ride, you and your whole family would enjoy and remember forever. We have many fine guide services that would take you into this country for a day, week, or whatever amount of time you need to see and feel the great peace of Wyoming.
